Catechism Question #1: Who made you and all things.

Question #1: Who made you and all things?

Answer: God made me and all things.

Let’s look in the Bible to see what this answer means. We’ll start by reading some parts of the first book of the Bible, Genesis.

"And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters...” And it was so. And God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear. And it was so. And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation....” And it was so. And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night...” And it was so. And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures...” And it was so. - Genesis 1, ESV

The first chapter of Genesis shows us that God created everything we see by speaking.

It shows us how powerful God’s words are. He can just speak and, POOF, things appear!

Let’s look next at the Bible book of Psalms, chapter 139. It says...

For you formed my inward parts;  you knitted me together in my mother's womb. - Psalm 139, ESV

Do you see those words “formed” and “knitted”. That tells something about how God made us.

God designed everything, including you. God didn’t just slap some junk together; he beautiful designed us like a master artist! Let’s go back to the Bible book of Psalms, chapter 95, for one last verse.

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! - Psalm 95, ESV

This Psalm teaches us that God is our maker, so he’s in charge. God is king over all the things he’s made, so he decides how we should live, not the people who were created.

So back to our question: who made me and all things?

Answer: God made me and all things.

God created everything by speaking. God designed everything, including you. And God is our maker, so he’s in charge.
